McGregor crowned champion at UFC 194
‘I said to (UFC bosses) Lorenzo [Fertitta] and I said to Dana [White], I’m breaking these big numbers, I’m breaking these half a billion dollar revenue numbers like the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
“Nobody can take that left-hand shot”, McGregor told ESPN after the UFC 194 bout drew 16,516 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and raked in a U.S.-record gate revenue of $10.1 million. There is inevitably a sense of anti-climax when a fight that everyone had anticipated would be a war is over within 13 seconds. He was embarrassed in front of his friends, family and fans that he was in great despair at the locker room, evidenced by the video below per MMA Mania.
“Then I’ll go back up after a lightweight contender has emerged and take them out”.
It’s a bad way to lose, especially considering that Aldo hadn’t tasted defeat in more than one decade, defending his 145- pound strap nine times in the process.
Rousey was famously kicked in the head by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November, and on Saturday, Aldo was sent crashing to the mat courtesy of a Conor McGregor left hook.
However, it was soon made clear that Aldo had actually been far more magnanimous in defeat, and he praised McGregor for his punch that knocked him unconscious and ended the fight in record time.
“So it’s not something he predicted”, said Aldo.
“I feel for Jose, he’s a phenomenal champion – he was a phenomenal champion”. “I’m going to sit back in the shadows over Christmas and plot and I’ll come back in the New Year with something for you all”. “I knew he would overextend and I knew I’d catch him so Mystic Mac strikes again”. “He got me with a good shot and was able to finish the fight”. “It’s Christmas. In the fight game, you travel around, making weight or doing something, and Christmas was taken from me many times”.
McGregor has been credited, along with former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, with widening the appeal of mixed martial arts. “Not only me but my career speaks for itself”, Aldo said.
