McGregor KOs Alvarez to take second UFC belt

McGregor snatched his new lightweight championship belt, paired it with his featherweight title, and UFC’s first two-class champion in the promotion’s history plopped himself on top of the cage and absorbed the scene of his historic night.

The Guinness might be flowing all night in McGregor’s honor. Before that he was riding a two-fight win streak, over the likes of Dong Hyun Kim and Kelvin Gastelum.

Elsewhere at UFC 205, Tyron Woodley kept his welterweight championship after a majority draw against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

So too did lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov, another victor on the night. And some pressing contractual matters too it seems. Now that McGregor is the champion of two divisions, one would imagine that his next fight would at least be a defense of one them. Perhaps the revelation of his soon-to-change circumstances spurred more of that talk than ever here. Now, he wants in on a bigger piece of the action, not just a paycheck. “It feels great.
