McGregor to face dos Anjos in March
McGregor (19-2) won the 145-pound title last month at UFC 194 with a stunning, 13-second knockout of longtime champion Jose Aldo.
After becoming featherweight champion in December, the Dublin fighter has said his next goal is to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.
UFC 197, which was previously rumored to take place in Rio de Janeiro, will now take place in Las Vegas on March 5 and feature two major title fights.
Also, on that bill, Botter reports there will be a co-main event of Holly Holm defending her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Miesha Tate.
Fighters must generally vacate their title to move up divisions, yet UFC president Dana White just left the door open for McGregor’s audacious bid, saying, “I’m interested” and, “If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can”. “I think I’m the guy to beat Conor”.
An Instagram photo that was uploaded by UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor is being investigated by Gardai in Dublin. The UFC is the worst, except when it is the best.
Holm became a breakout star in 2015 with her upset win over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, but her future was left in limbo due to the UFC’s insistence on an immediate rematch.
Tate (17-5), also a former Strikeforce champion, is now riding a four fight win streak inside the Octagon. No venue has been announced, though it is expected to take place at either MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay. Now training out of Las Vegas, Tate was promised a title shot against Rousey last summer, but the UFC made a decision to book a fight between Holm and Rousey instead. There is Hacran Dias, the Brazilian’s trainer, who got pissed off by the Irishman during the fight.
