McHenry District 156 teachers could strike Thursday if negotiations fail Wednesday
McHenry Community High School Teachers Association officials say they’re ready to negotiate and resolve differences “as soon as possible”. Until that happens, more than 400 teachers and support staff will be at all of the district’s schools with signs to get their point across.
“We all hoped for the best last night from negotiations, and to be out here this morning is a little sad”, Dunn said.
The district issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, informing parents, guardians and students of the association’s intent to strike if no agreement is reached.
Not only will the teachers be on strike Thursday, there will be no football this weekend. They’ll be on the picket lines.
Negotiations continue in McHenry, where representatives of District 156 and its high school teachers are trying to avert a walk out. “We will send out an all call tonight or early tomorrow morning with a more definitive answer”.
The strike is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.
Negotiations began in March then broke down and entered federal mediation.
The union says the school board wants to eliminate the teachers’ salary schedule and make the teacher pay half the cost of their insurance increase next year.
