McLaren Bringing Bespoke, Rare Supercars to Pebble Beach
McLaren pulled the wraps off the 562 horsepower 570S at the New York global Auto Show, and now, the McLaren Special Operations version of the entry-level supercar is also ready for its stateside debut, this time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Two examples have been created.
The MSO division configured a second customized 570S, clad in Ventura Orange, that will be on display at the Concours d’Elegance Concept Lawn. This has been rated at 641 HP (478 kW) and 680 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque, which is enough to allow it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3 seconds and to go up to a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph).
Elsewhere at Pebble Beach, the British marque will be bringing along a 675LT and 650S Le Mans from the Super Series range.
A fully functioning roof-mounted “snorkel” air intake, front wing louvres and lightweight alloy wheels are styled around the design of the 1995 racer. And finally, wrapping up McLaren’s lineup will be a ’96 McLaren F1 GTR on loan from BMW N. America.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a McLaren party without some version of the legendary F1.
Once in a while, however, the bespoke craftsmen and women at MSO get the chance to do one their way, just to show what is possible with special paint and trim. The 1998 McLaren F1, chassis #073, is in a highly sought-after specification with a number of “LM” upgrades. (MSO is truly the re-creation of McLaren that pinpoints most of the company’s greatest ventures: looking after ageing F1s, having adapted official buses to really customers’ terms, and keeping hard-core P1 GTRs in place of ultra-wealthy increasing followers, as Ferrari does using the FXX K.).
Resplendent in Mauvine Blue paintwork – that’s purple, to you and I – it will be the first opportunity for many to see McLaren’s first Sports Series model in the metal.
