McLaren goes OTT with show special
The customization division of McLaren Automotive has prepped two 570S Coupes for the California crowd, each to showcase the full range of options that will be available. With a top speed of 330km/h (205mph), the 675LT accelerates to 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 2.9 seconds, and hits 200km/h (124mph) in 7.9 seconds. Deliveries of the 650 S Le Mans are yet to begin, but despite a ticket price of £244,500 ($381,400 plus destination charges), McLaren says that every planned example has already been sold.
The 675LT will star as the most track-focused McLaren to feature in the Super Series to date. The latter is another MSO creation, celebrating twenty years since McLaren’s victory at Circuit de la Sarthe with the F1 GTR. It features a “snorkel” roof air intake inspired by the F1 GTR that won the race in 1995, as well as front wing louvres and the orange paintjob found on 1960s McLaren racecars.
Earlier this week, McLaren laid out its plans for this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – one of the most opulent, indulgent celebrations of fancy cars on the planet – and one auto in particular caught my eye. Officially MSO was launched at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2011 to provide a bespoke personalisation service for McLaren customers. On loan from BMW North America, chassis #17R finished eighth in the 1996 Le Mans 24 Hours, run by Team Bigazzi.
In addition to personalisation, MSO and MSO heritage can offer routine maintenance, scheduled servicing and carry out retrims and repainting for owners of existing cars.
Resplendent in Mauvine Blue paintwork – that’s purple, to you and I – it will be the first opportunity for many to see McLaren’s first Sports Series model in the metal. This 570S will be joined by another custom example with both set to be displayed on the prestigious Concept Lawn at the event.
