Media reports false, Aamir Khan still Incredible India ambassador
Government of India has taken the remarks made by actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan on the rising intolerance in the country very seriously.
After his controversial statement on the “growing intolerance”, it was widely speculated that Aamir Khan would be removed as Incredible India’s Brand Ambassador.
But the Ministry of Tourism have stated that there is no change in their stand on the issue.
The media outlets that have been circulating the news have been referring to an RTI query that reportedly established Aamir’s removal.
In-charge of BJP’s National IT and SM Vibhag Amit Malaviya posted the same on twitter.
Soon after his comments on intolerance, thousands of Snapdeal users, downrated popular e-commerce app Snapdeal as protest to his comments with the app forced to part ways with the Bollywood actor. The comment, made in November, had a ripple effect across social media, with many hinting that he may lose his job as the brand ambassador for Incredible India.
Aamir Khan triggered a massive controversy when he said, “Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India”.
“Aamir Khan removed as brand ambassador of Incredible #India”.
“First, let me state categorically that neither I nor my wife Kiran have any intention of leaving the country. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day”, he said. She fears for her child. “That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet”, he added. “India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying”, Khan said in a statement.
