Finding Dory has smashed box office records to record the highest-grossing animated debut of all time, after taking in $136.2 million in its first weekend of USA release.
The “Finding Dory” opening weekend tally has already exceeded the domestic total of Pixar’s last movie “The Good Dinosaur”, which grossed $123 million in its complete run.
“It’s incredible when you look at the longevity of this brand, the viability of it, and the unfettered enthusiasm pretty much everyone has for Pixar”, ComScore movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian explained.
The computer-animated comedy movie features talk show host Ellen DeGeneres lending her voice to the role of the titular character, a forgetful blue tang fish who attempts to be reunited with her parents.
The weekend’s other new release, “Central Intelligence”, collected a solid $34.5 million in second place.
In 2003 when Finding Nemo was released it opened to $70.3 million.
Pixar has released a new clip from Finding Dory that introduces us to adorable Baby Dory.
“With the new film “Finding Dory” coming out, researchers are seriously panicking”, she wrote. Now You See Me 2, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson as illusionists, dropped a notch to fourth after making an estimated $9.6 million over the weekend, the crime caper flick’s second in theaters. The movie has also received fantastic reviews over the past few months.
