Meet Corduroy, the world’s oldest cat
Corduroy is the new oldest living cat right meow, according to a Guinness World Records statement on Thursday.
Since kittenhood, Corduroy has lived with owner Ashley Reed Okura, who was only seven years old when the cat entered her life, Guinness officials said.
The record-breaking feline previously held the record back in 2014, but lost out when the owners of Tiffany Two submitted a claim for the title.
CNN reports Okura credits Corduroy’s long life to being free to roam the outdoors in Oregon.
Ashley, who was only 7 when she picked Corduroy out of a litter of kittens, shared the secret to his long life.
The proud mama bought her furry family member a mouse to celebrate his victory once again.
However, Corduroy is not the oldest cat of all time.
Tiffany Two passed away recently, however, at the age of 27 years, 20 months, and two days.
“The secret has been allowing him to be a cat – hunting and getting plenty of love”, Reed Okura said in a statement. Guinness says Creme Puff, who died in 2005, was 38 years old.
To put it in perspective: He was born on August 1, 1989, when I was less than a year old.
One of Corduroy’s brothers reportedly lived to the age of 19.
In the video below, posted to the Guinness World Records Youtube channel, you can learn a bit more about Corduroy and see him in action. Jake, the world’s previous oldest living dog, died last month at 21.
