Meet The First (And Probably Only) Ned Flanders-Themed Metal Band
The band, who say they came up with the concept while in line at a grocery store, were trying to think of cheeky band names when someone suggested “Okilly Dokilly”.
Not following? Five dudes from Phoenix are here to give us deserving, God-fearing mortals a metal band based on Flanders, one of the more beloved characters from The Simpsons. Like, we know these are demos, but… in the immortal words of Ned Flanders himself, “My family and I can’t live in good intentions, Marge”.
It should be noted that another Flanders-themed act once existed: Ned Zeppelin, a tribute band that performed in 2001 and 2002 at the Greenbelt festival in Great Britain.
Over the weekend, I was sitting around with a few friends discussing the most pressing topics of our day, like the largest animal Ronda Rousey could beat in a fight (an emu) or whether or not everybody actually loved Raymond (they didn’t). You can check out the group’s Facebook page here.
Describing their sound, Head Ned told Rip It Up: ‘[it’s] not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk. Well there’s Head Ned, Red Ned, Thread Ned, Stead Ned and Bled Ned, of course. “Nedal is a happy medium in the Simpscene”.
What could possibly be the long-term goals for a Ned Flanders-themed metal band?
The left-handed Christian inspired group have their first hometown show in Phoenix, Arizona, on 5 September. In reality, Head Ned says, “this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening’s autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter”. But in a world of YouTube and social media, we imagine this will be a bigger hit.
