Meet The Tennessee Couple Who Are $533 Million Richer After Powerball Win
Meanwhile, a couple went on NBC’s “Today” show to claim they have a winning Powerball ticket that was sold in Munford, Tennessee.
A Tennessee couple went on NBC’s “Today” show on Friday and claimed they have one of the three winning Powerball jackpot tickets.
The family then reached out to a friend for financial advice and was put in touch with Joe Townsend, an estate planning and tax attorney in Memphis who had the idea for them to reveal themselves on TODAY.
The Robinsons appeared with their dog at a news conference Friday at the Tennessee lottery headquarters after their winning ticket was verified by lottery officials. “But you have to clean them”, John Robinson said.
The amount will be split equally between three, still officially unknown, ticket-holders – who are believed to have lottery tickets purchased in the states of Tennessee, California and Florida. There was one $100,000 victor and 17 $50,000 winners, lottery officials said.
Lisa Robinson works for a dermatologist and John is an engineer. Their son, Adam, is an electrician, and their daughter, Tiffany, is a recent college graduate. “But we talked and made it happen”.
The other two winners are from Tennessee and Florida, and they both remained unidentified, which winners prefer predictably to not invite unwanted attention.
He said he didn’t feel like stopping, but told his wife he would stop and get the tickets. This is not just a big deal for Munford. They understand that, I think. But Atwal hopes it is a regular and that he’ll soon get to meet them.
Auto body shop worker Jerry Caudle said he was “freaking out” when he heard a winning ticket was sold in his town, but it turned out he matched only two numbers, for a prize of $14.
The couple says they stayed up all night in anticipation, and admit they became nervous when local media outlets confirmed one of the winning tickets was bought from Naifeh’s Food Mart, where John had bought four tickets the night of the drawing.
But since you didn’t win the Powerball, take comfort in knowing that the story of John and Lisa Robinson, multimillionaires, has everything a good lotto story should.
The pair said they were in disbelief when the lottery numbers were read and checked them dozens of times. The odds of having the correct numbers: one in 292 million. Sainz reported from Munford.
