Meet Tomi Lahren, Rising Star of the Right
Trevor Noah had his most engaging interview to date with TheBlaze conservative firebrand Tomi Lahren last week, providing arguably his first real breakout moment since he took over The Daily Show previous year.
– Paul Joseph Watson (@PrisonPlanet) December 1, 2016 Trevor Noah didn’t “grill” or “drag” Tomi Lahren, he spoke to her nicely & continued the liberal failure of responding to hate with jokes. Lahren is a 24-year-old conservative who has an impressive social media following and hosts a show on the Glenn Beck-founded network The Blaze.
Lahren, who said that being on his show was basically coming into the lion’s den, seemed understandably more nervous than Noah, who maintained the same ultra-calm tone for most of the interview.
“Maybe they’re trying to stop what they perceive as bleeding, maybe, because, you know, she’s trending all over social media”, Charlemagne said, noting that most of the online reaction has not been favorable to her.
She referred to the people protesting the results of the election as “misfit babies” and suggested that Black Lives Matter is the new Ku Klux Klan. During their conversation, Noah and Lahren duel on everything from ObamaCare to the now infamous Trump Access Hollywood tape.
Before the interview began, Noah requested that the studio audience be polite to Lahren, a recent UNLV graduate.
“Now, The Daily Show wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced the hypocrisy of the left or the mainstream media”, the South Dakota native said in the clip.
“You realize Black Lives Matter can’t be the new KKK; the KKK is still around”, Noah pointed out. Tomi Lahren is a fraud, and it was oh so clear when she couldn’t coherently defend her own statements.
“For somebody who’s not racist, you have to spend a lot of time saying, ‘I’m not racist, ‘” he told her.
The voice that Lahren claims she has is nothing new.
For the whole day, the news would talk about the tweets of Trump.
Lahren says she is surprised when she meets black fans.
“So you have to have that same respect with the Black Lives Matter movement”, Charlamagne recalled telling her.
“These bubbles have not been imposed upon the public – it was what the people want”, says Paul Levinson, a professor of communication and media studies at Fordham University in NY, in an interview with the Monitor.
They also agreed that most heavily debated issues don’t have right or wrong solutions, and the answers will not be found at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Lahren, saying that she isn’t the bandwagon sort, felt that the choice between Trump and Clinton left her with only Trump as a viable option for the presidency, a view she believes she shares with many American voters. She is open to opportunities beyond The Blaze, including any that might involve Trump.
“The Daily Show” has a typically young and liberal audience. If I march in the streets, people say I’m a thug. They expect to me be abrasive, aggressive.
