Mega Man Legacy Collection Arrived Today
With that established, I was really, really excited at the announcement of the Mega Man Legacy Collection, a collection of the six NES Mega Man games for the modern console generation. (Also, you can remap the controls in this version of the collection, a feature sadly absent from the GameCube and PS2 version of the Anniversary set). Jimenez said, “The end result is a super accurate recreation of the original game”.
But, Mega Man Legacy Collection doesn’t live in a vacuum.
Though there are definitely numerous gamers out there that haven’t experienced the core Mega Man titles before, it seems silly to try and explain the premise of six games that are over two decades old. The collection also features a digital Museum Mode that lets you browse sketches and old art of the series. In case you were wondering, yes, this does mean that you can manipulate save files in order to progress through each game in a simpler manner (like so many people do with Virtual Console titles). This game is a comprehensive compilation of the original six 8-bit Mega Man games that bring back some iconic villains such as Dr. Wily and his Robot Masters. You won’t find any flashy new graphics, skins, or arcane layers of unlockable hidden content – just a handful of remarkable platformers treated like the video-game royalty they are.
Although Mega Man was well received by critics in 1987, the game was quickly overshadowed by superior sequels Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3, which we will get to in due course.
Out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. The game is remembered for its story but it doesn’t make any sense unless you read the manual beforehand!
Megan Man Legacy Collection is available as a digital download now. With six Mega Man games, a museum honoring each game with character art and music, and a new Challenge Mode featured, this is a fine collection to please the Mega Man fan in your life.
The Mega Man games require a lot of precision, sometimes with precision timing of less than a second. The database includes bios of every single enemy in the game and includes its HP, attack damage and its weakness. Capcom has come up with a number of challenge playlists that each comprise of a number of short segments from various Mega Man games (all grouped thematically).
All of the six games will be shown off in crisp HD sprites, and they will be accompanied by a Database that boasts of a description of every enemy and which weapon they’re weak against. On the NES and the old CRT TVs the games were designed for the lag between pressing a button on the controller and a reaction onscreen was basically instant.
The Mega Man Legacy Collection is a game collection from the classic Mega Man series produced by Capcom and Digital Eclipse.
“[The game] comes complete with leaderboard support, so you can see how you rank up against your friends and the world…” Even players who know the original games back-to-front will have their hands full conquering all the extra challenges.
Although the first sequel was a tough act to follow, Capcom took the series to loftier heights in 1990 with gaming-changing new features like the ability to slide and the introduction of Mega Man’s faithful dog Rush. As I am writing this, I can definitely see how influential the franchise has been on the industry as so many developers use these mechanics for current titles, but I don’t think they have almost as much finesse or originality as most of the collection here.
