Megyn Kelly claims Trump ‘threatened me’ before debate
When questioned about the sexual harassment allegations surrounding former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, O’Reilly responded that he’s “not interested in making my network look bad”.
Kelly told Dr. Phil that the alleged threats started a few days before the presidential primary debate she moderated, after she interviewed author Harry Hunt, who had written a book about Trump in which he discussed the rape accusation against Trump by his first wife, Ivana.
Kelly writes in the book that early in her career, Ailes routinely made “inappropriate sexually charged comments” and that after several months he “crossed a new line – trying to grab me repeatedly and kiss me on the lips”. The lawsuit triggered an internal investigation.
“I wrestled with what to, because I wasn’t sure what the truth was about Roger”, Kelly told George Stephanopoulos.
“If somebody is paying you a wage, you owe that person or company allegiance”, O’Reilly said without mentioning Kelly by name.
“It culminated in a physical attempt to be with me”, Megyn said on GMA. Once, when she pushed him away, Ailes asked “When is your contract up?” according to Kelly.
O’Reilly said that it has been “open season” on Fox News. Am I going to have my team waste their time pulling more complete clips to prove your cherry-picked clips are wrong?
O’Reilly retorted that Fox News was a great place to work, and that he had “no interest” in making Fox look bad or shaming it over Kelly’s issue. Because say what you like about Kelly, she’s got grit, and lots of it. The man accused of her assault, Roger Ailes, has since resigned from Fox.
“I believe that Roger Ailes made the company look bad”, Kelly replied.
Megyn Kelly’s hotly-anticipated memoir Settle For More is out today. She’s a very smart woman.
“I remember the first time The Kelly File took a Trump campaign event and put it on the air”.
The conflict began after an August Republican debate during which Kelly confronted Trump about some of his controversial comments, including calling women “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals”.
“And then not quite a year later, she joined me at the presidential debate in Detroit and that’s when she told me she was afraid of Donald Trump”. Trump also retweeted an insulting message about Kelly that called her a “bimbo”.
After the two faced off on air, she says, he invited her and her husband to Mar-a-Lago and offered her and two girlfriends a free stay at the Trump Soho hotel in NY. Her book is titled Settle For More. “But my own experience with him proves that he’s able to let things go if he so chooses”. She said she can “easily stay at Fox” but can also “go hopefully anywhere I want”. It’s only now, Megyn Kelly told me, that she can encourage other women to come forward now that she has power. He greeted her with a hug, he said. I want them to know they’re not to blame, and they’re nearly certainly not the only ones… “I don’t think anything happened in that the past year that limited that”.
Such waves of negative reviews have happened on Amazon in the past, including once for comic Amy Schumer and her book published last summer, “The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo”. But it would be an expensive gambit.
