Mehbooba will meet Governor tomorrow: Naeem Akhtar Feb 1, 8:01 pm
The State is under Governor’s Rule since January 8th.
While remaining evasive on what she told the Governor over government formation, the PDP chief said, “Jammu and Kashmir is a different state, there are different challenges”.
She said, “the alliance went well”. As of now, both PDP and BJP stand at 25 seats each. She has said she would not become the Chief Minister just for the sake of power but wanted assurances from the Narendra Modi government on implementation of Agenda of Alliance, reached with the BJP by her late father. There has been uncertainty over the formation of government in the state ever since. Mr. Sayeed represented Anantnag constituency.
Meanwhile, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah today said if PDP is not ready to form the government, fresh elections should be held. A government can be formed with support from seven independents and members of smaller parties.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti with BJP president Amit shah.
With the alliance in tatters, the PDP could be looking at other options – especially after Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited Mehbooba soon after Mufti’s passing. Senior leaders of the PDP further want an assurance from the BJP that no member of the party will comment on the controversial Article 370.
For the second time yesterday, top leaders of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held a closed-door meeting at the Muftis’ residence in Srinagar. “Yes, the governor has called Mehbooba Mufti for a meeting tomorrow”, said PDP spokesman Naeem Akhtar. “Ultimately, the party president was asked to take a decision, which she already has the authority to do”.
The BJP leader said if any issue is raised by PDP, it can be resolved.
“We have to form a new government in Jammu and Kashmir”. There are no preconditions as such.
Governor N.N. Vohra has started tightening his laces to run the government.
He said that after the meeting, the BJP team will meet the Governor over the issue. “Yes. We are going to meet the governor tomorrow evening”, Sharma said.
The PDP has been maintaining that Agenda of Alliance, the common-minimum program reached between the two sides for government formation is a “sacred document” and wants its implementation on ground in letter and spirit to ensure the State’s inclusive development.
“He (Mufti) tried his best to do something for the people and we will have to reassess whether we can make some real difference on the ground by carrying forward his mission, which needs a congenial political atmosphere”, she said. “Good. The state can’t be treated like a playground by these two parties”, he wrote on Twitter.
