Melania Trump to return to convention following speech gaffe
In a standing room-only Texas GOP delegation breakfast Thursday morning, Cruz defended his refusal to endorse the GOP nominee Wednesday evening. He insisted he would not be a “servile puppy dog”, especially after Trump’s criticism of the senator’s wife and father. This was my mistake, and I feel bad for the chaos I have caused.
The uproar over the withheld endorsement overshadowed well-received speeches by Eric Trump, the nominee’s son, and Governor Mike Pence of IN, the party’s nominee for vice president. Manafort added that the delegates who booed the Texas senator offstage Wednesday night helped unify the party behind Trump. “But I have seen this good man up close, his utter lack of pretense, his respect for the people who work for him and his devotion to his family”, Pence told the crowd, accusing Democrats of preparing to nominate the exact opposite of a truth teller, in Hillary Clinton.
“I believe we have come to another rendezvous with destiny”, he said.
“I’m getting there”, said Sanford, then offered this caveat: “For someone who has spent his entire political life worrying about debt and deficits, when someone says he is not going to touch entitlements, it gets tricky”. “If they didn’t, I was perfectly happy to get on plane and go home”. Cruz advised Republicans to vote their conscious and pick candidates on the ticket who will defend the Constitution.
Cruz refused to endorse Trump during his speech in Cleveland Wednesday night, prompting boos and derisive chants from the delegates.
He talked about Hillary grooming Barack Obama to be the kind of president she would be, before saying “Hillary Clinton wants a better title – I would too if I was already America’s Secretary of the Status Quo”.
Mr Trump unexpectedly walked into the arena just as Mr Cruz was ending his remarks. “I will be listening to how he and the campaign conducts themselves every day from now until November”. Last night was a speech that was focused entirely on the United States of America on a path forward. “The way to win, as I tried with all my might, is not to just scream and yell and attack as traitor anyone that would dare question our candidates”.
Cruz spent the entire second half of 2015 obsequiously hyping Trump’s candidacy because he assumed it would collapse and all those Trump supporters would migrate to Team Cruz.
The Pennsylvania crew faces this task knowing that the Trump campaign hasn’t been advertising in the state, while Clinton has, and that Trump hasn’t developed either a regional fundraising network or any real campaign organization here. “Let me tell you the politically easy option is to stand up and pledge your allegiance”. That’s the right political outcome. I’m not going to lie to you.
The Indiana politician, who served in congress for 12 years before he became governor of the mid-western state in 2013, delivered a measured, self-deprecating and at times amusing speech that pleased delegates coming soon after Mr Cruz enraged them, reminding them of their divisions.
