Melbourne Cup on Big Orange’s agenda
Big Orange hasn’t yet featured in early Cups markets, but is certain to after his victory over Trip To Paris, who has been quoted at $21 for the Melbourne Cup.
Bell said: ‘He is back with a big bang.
Though he is the favourite, Trip to Paris is by no means the only horse in with a good shot of winning the big race and taking home the substantial cash prize. He’s so genuine and a pleasure to train and I can’t sing his praises high enough. “There were obvious doubts over him staying this trip (two miles) but he’s improving – he is just a big oaf and will only get stronger as the year goes on”.
“Bill (Gredley, owner) is so enthusiastic and he knows his horses inside out”. When you breed them, I think it’s extra special.
He has a bit to find on the bare numbers with the likes of Big Orange but as a relatively unexposed guaranteed stayer, Quest For More is worth a shout at what could be a decent price.
“The Grand Prix de Deauville was the plan after this but he has had a hard race today, so we will have to see how he is”.
Simenon’s owner Nick Peacock also has Aussie Reigns as an outsider for the Goodwood Cup.
Spencer said: “He’s very tough and honest and loves this ground”.
“Silvestre (on Vive Massachusetts Fille) was frying me early on and I was anxious I was expending too much, but he was tough when I needed him to be”.
The two-mile heat is a classy affair nowadays with 2005 victor Sergeant Cecil memorably building on his win to eventually claim Group One gold in France. He is out of a Fasliyev mare who was all speed, but the Duke Of Marmalade’s seem to be doing well with time.
The Michael Bell-trained 6-1 shot fended off 9-2 favourite Quest For More by a neck with Trip To Paris a short-head further back in third.
Melbourne is also still an option for Trip To Paris, while runner-up Quest For More is set to revert to handicap company for the Ebor with Charlton feeling he does not posses the necessary speed for Australia. When you win two valuable races like he has already this year, anything else is a bonus and he’s picked up another 75,000 there.
“On reflection, Golden Horn has been on the go for a while with the Feilden, the Dante, the Derby and the Eclipse, so maybe missing the King George [at Ascot last Saturday] was a blessing in disguise”.
“My owners are keen on Melbourne”, said Dunlop. A lot of sons of Teofilo like quick ground, and if we get that at York that will suit him better.
“It was thrilling to be involved in a race like that”, said Bell.
“I am a Sussex boy and I like to target my horses at this meeting”. He hit the front and just wandered about a bit which can happen at Goodwood.’.
“He didn’t get the best of runs at Ascot, so fingers crossed things fall right for him at Goodwood. He understands him and lets him go to sleep during a race – he’s done a very good job with him”. “It will be interesting to see what weight Big Orange and my horse get”.
“Growing up, we used to go to Goodwood whenever we could and had people staying over for the week and even though I am now up in Newmarket, Goodwood is still very special”.
Meanwhile, Quest For More is a close second, priced at 9/2 with the same online sports betting site, while Pallasator is 9/1.
