Melissa McCarthy makes triumphant SNL return as ‘the new’ Sean Spicer
Melissa McCarthy took Sean Spicer’s advice to tone down her portrayal of him on Saturday Night Live. Well, that’s according to actress Melissa McCarthy’s latest impression of the White House press secretary on the February 11 episode of Saturday Night Live.
McCarthy’s fist surprise performance was so memorable that it seemed impossible to top.
McCarthy’s Spicer addressed the appeals court’s decision against reinstating President Donald Trump’s executive order and Trump’s subsequent tweet, by saying Trump was referring to The People’s Court.
As the show upped its satirical take on the Trump administration, McCarthy returned for the cold open of this week’s show hosted by Baldwin, with Ed Sheeran as musical guest.
If that weren’t enough, Jeff Sessions, portrayed by Kate McKinnon, makes an appearance.
It’s only been a little over three weeks since Donald J. Trump became President of The United States and for many, it’s felt like watching a real-life soap opera play out 24/7. At least not yet.
Holding another spoof news conference, McCarthy’s Spicer announced to the White House press corps that “I’m calm now”, in a far from convincing tone, soon struggling to keep emotions in check between the “new Spicey” and “old Spicey”. If you were wondering, Spicey’s mental health is fine, and his podium now has wheels. It was also another tour de force for Emmy victor Kate McKinnon, who portrayed Kellyanne Conway, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Senator Elizabeth Warren in separate sketches.
“I guess I can’t use my big words so I’m going to have to use my dollys. first you’ve got Barbie coming in, nice, all-American girl back from a dream vacation”. The TSA doll pats Moana down. McKinnon’s Sessions says before being quickly ushered off the stage.
Many were expecting comic and Trump arch nemesis Rosie O’Donnell to appear on last night’s SNL.
“I said very tough things to [O’Donnell] and I think everybody would agree she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her”, Trump said back in September after Clinton accused him of verbally attacking women.
Looks now like she will be a regular on the show. “He’s an incredible person, he knows me better than anymore”, Putin says of Trump.
The judge ultimately rejected the faux-POTUS’s arguments, “I want one day without a CNN alert that scares the hell out of me!”
