MEMA warns residents of dangerous heat expected to come this weekend
Some spots could hit 100 degrees.
According to the NWS, the heat index values are to exceed 105 degrees across a four state area.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a unsafe situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
NWS recommends strenuous outdoor activities be rescheduled or restricted to early morning hours, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing with a hat and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
So far, August has had high temperatures of 89, 89 and 90 degrees.
Forecasters are predicting Friday will start off stormy on the Jersey Shore, with thunderstorms likely between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Now this is hot.
“Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle, as interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes after turning off the air conditioning”, the statement said.
A strong area of high pressure has been parked over the region for weeks, raising already hot summertime temperatures to extreme levels.
The temperatures are expected to cool off by Friday, which has an expected high temperature of 76.
