Memphis police officer shot dead by his neighbor
An off-duty Memphis police officer who had been with the department for just over a year was shot and killed Sunday in what police described as an exchange of gunfire with a neighbor.
But police said Monday that Clark has been charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in connection with Olridge’s death.
“It wasn’t very long ago that I stood in close proximity to where I’m standing now and said something very similar to what I am saying”, Mr Armstrong told a news conference. Police say Olridge had an encounter with Clark, his neighbor, while on his way to work. On October 11, the day of the shooting, the Memphis Commercial Appeal had reported that the shooting was related to a dispute that Olridge was having with one of his neighbors.
“Officer Terrence Olridge, 31, was a 2009 alumnus of Lane College, according to the school”.
After the shooting, Olridge went back to his house and tried to get help. Olridge was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
Mr Olridge was the fourth Memphis police officer to be fatally shot in just over four years. He leaves behind a fiancee who is four months pregnant, Armstrong said.
“It just doesn’t get any easier”, Armstrong told reporters outside the hospital Sunday.
Clark is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning where it is possible that additional charges related to the shooting death could be filed.
Neighbors said they heard at least 15 gunshots, WMC reported. He was transported to a Memphis hospital where he later died. ‘I didn’t think that we’d be here again so soon’. Police described the details about the shooting as being “sketchy” on Sunday. Police have charged 29-year-old Tremaine Wilbourn, who was on probation for an armed bank robbery, with first-degree murder in Bolton’s death.
