Men’s gymnastics teams battle for Olympic gold
In an article in the Wall Street Journal, U.S. star Sam Mikulak says the focus on their bodies is an intentional marketing ploy to bring more attention to the team. She is the world record holder for the 4×100-meter freestyle.
Ledecky would go first, in the 200 meter freestyle, at 10:19 p.m. Phelps has his sights set on the 200 meter butterfly at 10:28 p.m.
Eight different sports were offering the chance to secure medals on the third official day of action in Brazil, including swimming, diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rugby, shooting and weightlifting.
“After qualifying second with a strong performance on Saturday, Team USA took on top teams from Japan, China, Russia and Great Britain in the men’s gymnastics team final on Monday”. The women’s 100m breaststroke final, with Winston-Salem native Kathleen Baker as the No. 1 seed, is at 9:54 p.m. That team was later inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006.
The men’s competition will be held at 3 p.m. and you can stream it live here via NBC.
The U.S. got off to a rough start with their first of six rotations and it only got slightly better from there on out.
The game which is slated for 5th August to 21st August 8, 2016, had its official opening ceremony on Friday the 5th and would feature More than 11,000 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
The men’s team event, which airs on edited tape delay Monday night in the United States, is comprised of vault, rings, parallel bars, pommel horse, floor exercise and horizontal bar.
For the U.S.to win, they’ll have to tighten up on pommel horse, the event that plagued them in the 2012 Olympics in London and continued to haunt them in the preliminaries. While the men’s team shouldn’t have much (any) trouble handling Venezuela in their match on Monday, seeing some of the world’s best players on the court together is still worth a look.
Gabby Douglas, the first African-American to win an all-round gold in the London Olympics would also be competing. The women’s team dispatched New Zealand 3-0 in their first Group G matchup followed by No. 3-ranked France 1-0 to take sole possession of the group.
