Mendeecees Harris Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison
Mendeecees Harris, star of Love & Hip Hop New York, will spend the next 97 months behind bars.
As viewers will recall, Mendeecees was freed on $600,000 bail in the spring after over a year in prison, and, at that time he had turned over more than $103,000.00 in VH1 earnings to the government for restitution.
At his federal court sentencing Tuesday, Mendeecees Harris also agreed to forfeit the $171,000 he’s made from the television show, along with a 2011 Audi R8 sports auto worth $111,000. The drug charges stem from drug trafficking that took place between 2005 and 2012. Officials say Harris participated in the distribution process of heroin and cocaine with people who transported the drugs to Rochester on his behalf. The 37-year-old reality star was sentenced to eight years on December 1 and he is expected to turn himself over after the New Year.
Harris’ sentence comes on the heels of the kick off to LHHNY’s sixth season, as well as his nuptials to wife, Yandy Smith, which was filmed for fans in a live VH1 production. Donald Thompson, who represents Harris in court, revealed that the judge recognized Harris’ efforts to encourage the youth to steer clear of drug trafficking activities since his arrest. “You have no idea how much your love and encouragement means”, she captioned one.
“Thank you for your continued support”, the beauty wrote. “I completely accept responsibility for all that is going on”. “We finally have closure and are prepared and ready for all the future holds. My transition to be a better person, a productive person started well before this case”, Harris states in an Instagram post.
He also wanted young men to let him be an example of what they shouldn’t be doing.
