Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA Teased Ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show
At about 50mph the Concept IAA automatically extends eight segments at its rear, increasing the car’s overall length by 390mm, and also deploys several flaps embedded in the car’s front bumper.
Mercedes used a completely digital process allowed the company to develop the IAA in just 10 month instead of the usual 18 for a concept vehicle. The German based automaker has released a teaser image with it and it is revealing a muscular profile and a four-door coupe body style so this is actually leaving us wondering what it may be. Obviously sharing some DNA with the F 015 Luxury in Motion self-driving auto we rode in earlier this year, the IAA is an altogether sleeker version.
The design focus for the Concept IAA is on “world-beating aerodynamics”.
Inside the Concept IAA boasts an interior that isn’t far removed from production viable. Optical Finger Navigation buttons replicate the functions of traditional physical buttons but make for a simpler appearance, and OFN buttons on either side of the wheel correspond to instrument cluster menus on their respective sides – reducing the need for drivers to hunt for the screen function they’re changing.
The Concept IAA is powered by a gas-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain that provides a combined 279 horsepower. So could this be the new and improved next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS? Yet Carbon dioxide emissions are claimed to be just 28g/km in its most efficient mode, with a 20 mile all-electric range.
An India made Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan!
“The Concept IAA applies intelligent innovations to resolve the conflicting aims of functionality and aesthetics, and shows that we still have plenty of ideas on how to achieve further improvements in efficiency”, says Thomas Weber, board member and the head of research for Mercedes-Benz cars. “And it shows in a host of details what our customers can look forward to in future production models”, said Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales.
