Mercedes-Benz trademarks new EQ names
What really makes the teased coupe all the more exclusive is the fact that this concept previews an upcoming Maybach, which as the caption suggests will be over six metres long.
We wouldn’t be surprised if this coupe is based on a modified version of the S-Class coupe.
The concept coupé’s body measures in at nearly six-metres long, making it close to 1.5 metres longer than an AMG GT and 80cm longer than an S-Class.
It’s also unknown if Mercedes-Benz has any intentions of bringing this Maybach coupe into production, even in a limited form.
But whatever Mercedes has planned for Maybach, we won’t have long to wait to find out, as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance gets underway in Monterey, California on August 21.
The trademark names simply tell us about the way these trademarks will be used. If that’s the case, then it’s possible that Mercedes-Maybach is trying to compete with the Rolls Royce Wraith.
Now the outgoing E-Class has always had a distinct identity compared to other Mercedes sedans but with this 2016 model, the brand has gone bold and designed it in a way that it mimics the bigger S-Class.
Other applications include EQD, EQF, EQR, EQX and EQZ which could represent new models not now featured in the Mercedes-Benz range, or may simply be set aside to prevent other companies from using them. But its apparent goal is to come up with some truly distinctive models that may only carry a Maybach badge again. The Maybach brand previously flirted with the notion of a coupe through the outlandish twin-turbo V12 Exelero concept in built in 2004. Back in 2005, BMW took over as the top selling luxury brand.
