Met Gala Reveals Its Futuristic Theme for 2016: Technology Vs. Fashion
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is already planning its annual event and has already announced details of highly anticipated 2016 Met Gala.
Anna Wintour reportedly banned selfies from this past May’s Met Gala, but for 2016, she’s embracing technology wholeheartedly.
Taylor, 25, will be joined by actor Idris Elba, and British designer and Chief Design Officer of Apple Inc Jonathan Ive as hosts of the event which will be sponsored by Apple. Reportedly, honorary chairs will also include industry icons Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld, and Miuccia Prada in case we were bored of the already A-list line up. It’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”.
The exhibit will highlight more than 100 pieces and combine handmade techniques, such as embroidery and pleating, along with Silicon Valley contradictions of laser-cutting and circular knitting, reported Vogue.
“Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made”, Bolton added to Vogue.
The event is a star-studded occasion to rival the big Hollywood awards nights, and the 2015 gala was attended by the likes of Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Who mastered the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme the best?
