Metal Gear Solid gets an Unreal Engine 4 remake, and it’s glorious
Called Shadow Moses, the project brings the 1998 Metal Gear Solid into the 21st century, with the Unreal 4 engine underpinning its realistic lighting effects and more detailed environments. The trailer is best watched than described, and will instantly whet your appetite to again control Snake from the series’ outset, this time without having to scramble around under the telly to find Meryl’s codec on the back of the game box. Hernandez has revealed the first trailer for the project, which shows off various iconic locations from the PS1 classic, along with character models for Solid Snake, Cyborg Ninja, and more. Creator Airam Hernandez has released first video footage of the project, and it’s looking pretty damn special. “That’s the reason I decided to remake the entire game!” After all, who is to say that Konami might one day make an official Metal Gear Solid remake of their own? That’s according to the project’s Facebook page, where Hernandez explains some of the motivation behind the remake. This seems unlikely considering that Konami pulled PT – an online mini-game prequel to a new Silent Hill – when that title was cancelled. For now fans can watch what Hernandez has accomplished so far and hope he is allowed to finish his work.
Perhaps inevitably, there’s an independently developed remake of the original Metal Gear Solid in the works.
