Metro Detroit Uber drivers planning to strike this weekend
A group of Uber drivers are calling for a strike this weekend, hoping the company will make a few changes to the app.
Drivers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston have said on the social network that they will participate in the strike, but it is unclear how many will actually carry out the plan. The drivers are demanding Uber hike rates by 60 percent, add a tip option and raise fares.
This isn’t the first Uber strike. While that association organized hundreds of Uber Black drivers to protest last month, it is not involved in this weekend’s strike. Just last week the Dallas saw the “UberBlack-out”, in which drivers protested a new policy enforcing UberBlack drivers to pick up less expensive UberX fares. But when he went to dispute that assertion in person, he said that an Uber employee told him he was “too active” in the strike and wouldn’t be reactivated. Drivers are treated like independent contractors, Mashable reported.
Uber users across the Valley may want to consider alternatives beginning this evening. “Drivers say they value the flexibility and the chance to be their own boss, and choose Uber over other options because it fits around their life and works for them”.
