Metro suspends service on Blue, Silver and Orange lines
No smoke reported in Metro station or tunnels.
Metro said riders on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines will find trains are traveling more slowly than normal, as they operate under speed restrictions following Monday’s problem with a transformer fire near the Stadium-Armory stop.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The source of the smoke was determined to be a fire involving one of the substation’s three AC/DC transformers, WMATA officials said in a press release. Dozens of personnel are reconfiguring adjacent power stations at Deanwood and Potomac Avenue to feed electricity into the affected sections of track.
Service was suspended between Eastern Market, Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road on Monday while crews dealt with the situation. Trains will run about every 8 minutes.
UPDATE 11:20 a.m.: Blue Line: Trains now operating between Franconia-Springfield and Eastern Market stations.
Silver Line: Trains are operating only between Wiehle-Reston East and East Falls Church.
Metro says bus service has been requested between Eastern Market and Minnesota Avenue and between Eastern Market and Benning Road.
On the Green Line, Metro said service has resumed.
