Mets add Eric Young Jr
The Mets announced this afternoon that they have acquired infielder/outfielder Eric Young, Jr. from the Braves for cash considerations. Young is set to report to Triple-A Las Vegas sometime in the coming week. If nothing else, Young can add another dimension to New York’s offensive attack as a part-time player and pinch runner.
Young, 30, is now represented by Jeff Berry of CAA Sports.
Young Jr.is a New Jersey native, and spent time in 2013 (91 games) and 2014 (100 games) with the Mets previously. 248 for Atlanta’s Triple A affiliate in 67 games.
The 30-year-old started the season with Atlanta as part of a platoon in center field with Cameron Maybin, but was designated for assignment after hitting.
Young’s strengths, however, lie in his speed and positional versatility. His combined steal total with Colorado gave him 46 for the year, tops in the National League.
He began this year as a starting outfielder for the Braves but hit just.
This will be Young’s second stint with the organization (2013-14).
