Mets, Brewers trade for Carlos Gomez falls apart
One of the most freakish events in the recent history of Major League Baseball occurred last night, and many people feel social media is to blame. That was when Flores, an infielder for the New York Mets, couldn’t fight back his emotions regarding the trade news.
The reports hit the smartphones of the fans in the stands, who gave Flores a standing ovation, their salute before his supposed trade to the Brewers. Here’s where things got really weird. Typically when a player is traded during a game, he is pulled from the game in order to avoid injury. However, Flores remained playing at Citi Field, as apparently the deal hadn’t been finalized yet.
Agent Scott Boras, who represents Gomez, and the Brewers agreed Thursday that there is no medical issue significant enough to halt any trade involving Gomez.
Gomez is not headed to the Mets (at least not as of this moment) and instead all we’re left with is a wild couple of hours.
The almost 24-year-old Flores, who was (curiously) still in the game, has been part of the Mets’ organization since he was 16, was understandably emotional. “I can only come here tomorrow and work the same way I did today and previous days and try to get myself up to a better position”. Unfortunately social media etc. got ahead of the facts, and it may have had an adverse effect on one of the players rumored to be involved. He’s upset by it, and I don’t know anything about it. So I went down and said, ‘Listen, I don’t know what’s going, but you’ve got a game to play.
Nevertheless, thinking that he’d be leaving New York, Flores teared up right on the field.
Although this won’t solve all of the growing number of problems at the plate, the team from the Big Apple just ensured a deep run into October with this trade.
Milwaukee Brewers’ Carlos Gomez, right, jokes with second baseman Scooter Gennett as they lean over the dugout rail to watch the Colorado Rockies in the seventh inning of a baseball game Friday, June 19, 2015, in Denver. Then Mets GM Sandy Alderson said the trade will not happen.
After acquiring Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves, the Mets were able to get a spark in the offense and a utility player for the field.
‘There is no trade, ‘ Alderson stated.
