Mets complete sweep of Washington, pull into tie in NL East
Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy and streaking Lucas Duda went deep against Zimmermann in the third.
Yankees 12, White Sox 3 – Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira homered against Jeff Samardzija, and New York romped in Chicago. New York Times reporter Tim Rohan tweeted Syndergaard’s feelings at the moment.
It seems one of those teams is the New York Mets, who, after Sunday night’s nationally televised 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals, cemented a sweep of their divisional foe, and leaped into a first place tie with the Nationals.
“It’s so much fun to be a Met right now”, Syndergaard said.
NEXT UP: If the team is to slowly get things back on track, it’ll start on Monday at 7:05 p.m.in the District as Doug Fister (4-6, 4.39) goes up against Arizona’s Zack Godley (2-0, 2.25). The Nationals led 1-0 with two outs when New York’s bats broke out against Zimmermann.
The Nationals – who snapped a four-game losing when Wilson Ramos blooped a two-run single to right with one out in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 5-4 victory over the Diamondbacks – remain a game behind the Mets. The New York Mets Twitter feed shared some of Collins thoughts.
“The crowd was a little more into it”, Nationals infielder Anthony Rendon said.
Washington’s Joe Ross, making just the sixth start of his young career, also didn’t factor in the outcome. “It was up and in for a ball up, and somehow he kept it fair”. Duda has eight blasts over his past seven games and took over the major-league lead with a fifth multi-homer game. Hansel Robles (3-2) picked up the win, striking out Nationals stars Werth and Bryce Harper in the eighth inning.
Yoenis Cespedes had his breakout game as a Met Monday night against the Miami Marlins. The Mets have had their share of both great hitting and fielding first basemen, who have helped them win two titles. “I think it drives me, it pushes me to do better, to play better, to push myself more”, he said. “In this stadium, that was unique”. On the 27th, they traded for a late-inning reliever, Tyler Clippard.
“It’s out there about our pitching”.
“[Tonight’s] a big game”, Collins said. Between Wednesday and Thursday, the team almost completed and then backed out of a trade to upgrade its offense, reducing its shortstop to tears in the process, and lost two games, one of which slipped away on a ninth-inning home run. Citi Field was as loud as it’s ever been in recent memory. The Mets are 38-18 at home.
Meanwhile, Rendon’s first-inning homer remains the Nats’ only hit of the night. He is expected to throw 80-85 pitches. This was a turning point for the Mets towards maturing as a team by showcasing the value of playing with urgency. OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis was placed on the 15-day disabled list with discomfort in his neck and left shoulder. But, when you take into account the fact that the Mets entered Sunday’s game dead last in runs scored in the entire league, that huge inning only adds on to the importance of the game.
But there may be several club hassles, asThe Washington Post and MLB.com considered that Storen and his cause, Brodie Van Wagenen, faced with Washington universal professional Mike Rizzo in New York July 30, presumably to speak about Storen’s part using the confederacy… The 8-7 loss dropped darkness on Metsdom.
