Mets Have Made Offer For Jonathan Lucroy
Lucroy could be taking his skills to Cleveland. However, there are complications, as Lucroy’s contact allows him to block a trade to eight teams, one of which happens to be the Indians.
If the trade does become official, the Brewers will reportedly be acquiring four prospects in exchange for the all-star catcher.
Lucroy has spent his entire career with the Brewers, who drafted him in the third round of the 2007 draft at No. 101 overall.
Lucroy has said publicly he wants to play for a contender, and the American League Central-leading Indians fit that bill.
The Indians current catching situation is shaky.
Lucroy, 30, entered Saturday hitting.300 with 13 home runs and a.484 slugging percentage.
The Indians also are involved heavily in the pursuit of Lucroy, as The Post’s Joel Sherman reported, especially with their own backstop, Yan Gomes, out with a separated shoulder.
Tribe catchers have the lowest OPS in AL.504. It’s possible Lucroy, who now has a $5.25 million club option for 2017, could use this as leverage to negotiate an extension.
To make the deal work, the Indians might have to offer Lucroy and extension of increase his club option year.
The Brewers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Hernan Perez ripped a two-run homer to left off right-hander Jameson Taillon. Allen is 23. The Indians signed Mejia and Chang as global free agents.
The New York Mets are very busy trying to improve their team prior to the trade deadline.
