Mets’ Mejia suspended for year for positive drug test
Mejia, 25, will be suspended for the second time this season.
The 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic has played 113 major league games, all for the Mets, including seven this year. Anyone out there believe Sandy Alderson knew nothing about Jenrry Mejia and his second PED suspension when he made Monday’s trade for reliever Tyler Clippard?
In this Wednesday, September 10, 2014, photo, New York Mets relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia tosses the ball to throw out Colorado Rockies’ Josh Rutledge at first base to end a baseball game, in New York.
“We fully support MLB’s policy toward eliminating performance-enhancing substances from the sport”, they said in a statement. Another failed test by Mejia will result in a permanent suspension by Major League Baseball, with a possibility of reinstatement after two years upon appeal.
Although Mejia was already ineligible for the postseason because of his first positive test for Stanozolol, the fact that the Mets won’t be able to lean on the right-hander for the rest of the regular season hurts.
The Mets cannot trust Mejia, as he blew his second chance and does not deserve a third one.
New York Mets’ Daniel Murphy (28) celebrates with the Juan Uribe… Both teams have deep starting rotations, and the bullpens are solid as well, which will make for an exciting race down the final stretch of the season.
