Mets put Cuddyer on disabled list, promote prospect Conforto
New York even spiced things up a bit by throwing in a squeeze bunt by Eric Campbell to score their final run.
The run to post-season can begin with the Tuesday opener of this three-game series at Citi Field against the Padres.
While talking to reporters on Thursday, Sandy Alderson alluded to the fact that Cuddyer would likely land on the disabled list but said calling up a player from Double-A wasn’t his preference. Lee was making major league debut, but considering that the Mets were already no-hit by an unheralded rookie this year (Chris Heston), it’s still impressive. He had 39 saves for the Marlins last year and 34 in 2013. His appearances have been erratic throughout July as he dealt with the issue; he has started only six games during the month.
The 22-year old zipped by means of High-A that he did good, but is carry out better – quite probably his greatest of his minimal specialist job – at Double-A Binghamton. But I still haven’t gotten the real New York City experience.
Conforto’s talents should certainly boost the Mets’ offensive capability (it would be hard to make it any worse), but his promotion comes as the corresponding move to a decision that should have been made a while ago. Now, is the 22 year old being asked to be the savior of the 2015 New York Mets?
After hitting. 283 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 46 games for St. Lucie this season, Conforto was promoted to Double-A.
The Mets were hesitant to bring up Conforto because of his lack of experience in the upper minor league levels.
“You could put him in a keg and drop him down Niagara Falls, and he’s coming out”, Casey is quoted as saying.
“I just hope he can go out and play his game”, he said.
Drafted out of Oregon State, the 22-year-old showed the team what he was capable of during spring training, going 4-for-11 with 3 RBI in five games. All I can do is try and do as much as I can out here, learn as much as I can to prepare myself. “I think I was not unconfident to start with, and that’s what aided me obtain these four hits and play properly nowadays”.
So no, Conforto doesn’t need to be baseball’s version of Jesus Christ for the Mets. As for who took the longest to go from inception to 1,000, that honor belongs to the San Francisco (formerly New York) Giants.
It’s possible, to the point of probable, that major league pitchers will school Conforto with the kind of power and breaking stuff he’s not used to seeing. Not a big one, mind you, and not even one from outside the organization, but a move. Johnson, batting cleanup and playing second base, was 2-for-6 with a home run, one of four by the Mets.
