Mets return to loud welcome in New York
A new generation of Amazins is heading to the World Series.
NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy iced it by setting a Major League record by hitting a home run in six straight postseason games – a two-run shot in the eighth.
“The fans have been awesome from the first game we played the Dodgers (in the NLDS) at our place, to the first two games of this series”, Murphy said.
D’Arnaud also homered as the Mets won their fifth pennant.
Yoenis Cespedes was forced to leave the game in the 2nd inning with soreness in his left arm.
We knew when the postseason began, and really when the regular season began, that if the New York Mets were going to have success it would be on the back of their young starting pitchers.
Asked for his favorite World Series memory, Daniel Murphy recalled the 2011 Fall Classic, which he watched with his younger brother Jonathan in a residence they shared in their native Jacksonville, Florida. If you root for the Cubs, or the Mets, or nearly any team, the insults inflicted by time come as no shock. “We didn’t do it this year, but we just have to come in next year and do the same things”.
“You learn from everything you do, and next year I’m pretty sure it’s going to be easier for us”, shortstop Javier Baez said.
“There’s times when players, who are good players, once in a while they get a chance to show the world how good they really are”.
“That’s an emotion I’ll never forget”.

Arrieta and Lester lost the first two games of the NCLS, too, and the Cubs fared no better sending Kyle Hendricks and Jason Hammel out, either.
Chris Leyden, a content analyst at SeatGeek, noted that the hometown Mets could be in line to win the best-of-seven World Series on either of those days, depending on results from their first two games on the road. He finished the NLCS hitting. The big market Mets will play either the small-market Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays, whose home fans aren’t included in the ratings.
There were so many moments this year when anyone who has followed the Mets for a long time could envision the season unraveling.
It was 26 years ago that Back to the Future Part II predicted that the Cubs would win the 2015 World Series against Miami, a nameless fictional team with a baseball-playing alligator as its logo (the Marlins did not begin play until four years after the movie was released). But because these are the Mets of 2015, the ball got away from Cubs catcher Miguel Montero, allowing the go-ahead run to score on a wild pitch.
Throughout the season, manager Joe Maddon fearlessly moved players to other positions, and the different alignments rarely hurt the Cubs because of the athleticism of players such as Bryant, who also made starts at all three outfield positions and first base.
