Mets star deGrom likely done for season with elbow injury
The New York Mets will get a familiar face back on the roster this weekend as first baseman Lucas Duda will be activated from the club’s 60-day disabled list, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.

DeGrom, who had been bothered by right forearm soreness, will be limited to about 75 pitches.
“We certainly have no plans to have him pitch in the near future. We think he’s going to be fine, but we don’t have a crystal ball to know what’s going to happen here after he throws Sunday”. Left-hander Steven Matz, who has not pitched since August 14 because of shoulder tightness, is scheduled for a bullpen session.
Mets GM Sandy Alderson announced on Saturday that right-hander Jacob deGrom has been scratched from his upcoming start because of issues with the ulnar nerve in his throwing elbow.
“It’s nothing anymore damaging that the other ones basically”, he said.
With deGrom lost, Bartolo Colon (30) and Noah Syndergaard (28) will be the only Mets pitchers to make 25-plus starts this season. Duda hasn’t played since May 20, but has been taking batting practice and will be integrated slowly.
Lagares was placed on the DL on July 29 and underwent surgery days later to fix a partially torn ligament in his left thumb that he initially tried to play through.
The Chicago Cubs don’t know who they will play in the first round of the Major League Baseball playoffs in October, but one of the teams that could potentially be going up against the North Siders may have just suffered a devastating blow. For now, the team is lucky to have him back, even if it’s just for a couple of innings of defense per game.
