Metta World Peace considers return to ‘simple’ National Basketball Association
While no information has yet been released as to whether an agreement has been reached, World Peace’s representatives are reportedly in talks with the Lakers organization spurred on by the team’s shooting guard, Kobe Bryant, who is said to be enthusiastic about bringing World Peace back.
Now with No. 2 pick D’Angelo Russell on board and anchoring an improved roster, there’s a rising expectation that the Lakers will again be able to execute one of those expedited turnarounds in order to re-enter the crowded Western Conference postseason picture. There were reports last week the sides agreed, but this is the first confirmation of the deal from the Lakers.
The Lakers have been looking to add some more depth to the roster this offseason on the backend and Peace, formerly Ron Artest, would likely be a bench option if he actually signed. Mitch Kupchak has said that Upshaw may not factor into things yet and the team also now could bring in World Peace on a deal.
He will still make his usual mistakes, but a team can never have too much championship level leadership seeing as how the Lakers expect to have four rotation players under 24 years of age.
Since his departure from the National Basketball Association (NBA), World Peace continued playing professionally in China and Italy.
His potential role on the team is simply unclear, but for 10-15 minutes a night World Peace can turn a game around with his bulldog intensity, strength and fire. However, he does his best to push them to become better as his main goal is to win.
World Peace’s energy, work ethic and knowledge of the game is bound to rub off on the rest of the team.
The question is, do the Lakers have the infrastructure to develop these players?
There’s certainly a lot that World Peace can impart on the youngster especially considering he was one of the premiere perimeter defenders for over a decade in the National Basketball Association. To have longevity in this league you need to be very versatile and not be only a one-dimensional player.
However, since the rumors are about the Lakers and World Peace, the fans and media alike could not help but be drawn about knowing the story’s conclusion.
Buckley also mentioned that since the Lakers are “painfully thin” at the no. 3 spot, to the point that Kobe Bryant has to start there this coming season, then World Peace coming back may indeed be a close possibility. “I understand a superstar doesn’t want to come in and say, ‘Oh, we still have two or three years of rebuilding.’ I think with Jordan Clarkson, Russell, Randle, even Hibbert… we’re getting a core of seven or eight players”, Buss said.
