Mexicans say ‘adios’ to beloved singer Juan Gabriel
JuanGa, as he was known, was a Latin Liberace.
A member of Billboard’s Latin Music Hall of Fame, Gabriel sold more than 100 million records in his career and was nominated for six Grammys. Gabriel’s earnings rivaled those of his peers Eugenio Derbez, Paulina Rubio and Sergio Perez. Juan Gabriel was a giant in the music industry and is as popular now as ever. The singer, who dealt with health problems over the past few years, suffered a fatal heart attack, the BBC reports.

“He was one of the greats of Latin music – and his spirit will live on in his enduring songs, and in the hearts of the fans who love him”, Obama said. “I’m happy single”, Juan Gabriel is quoted as saying in his biography.
Grammy Award-winning salsa singer Marc Anthony, who is of Puerto Rican heritage, honored his mentor with an emotionally-charged cover of the icon´s song “Abrazame Muy Fuerte” during a concert in New York Sunday night. He is survived by four children.
“I am grateful to him, more than anything else, for his songs”, Hurtado said.
One of them Marshall Gourley, a tourist from Denver, Colorado, who said that “it would be a mortal sin to be in Mexico and not come to Plaza Garibaldi to remember him”.

Juan Gabriel was known for his romantic and emotional songs, since his first hit “No Tengo Dinero” when he has 21-years old, the artist has remained as a legacy of Mexico’s music and culture. Mourning fans gathered outside of his Santa Monica House and paid tribute to the artist as they sang his songs.
Just last week, his new album, Vestido de Etiqueta: Por Eduardo Magallanes, debuted at No. 1 on Billboards Top Latin Albums chart. His 13th album, “Los Duo”, was the top-selling Latin album of the year in 2015. Born into poverty and the youngest of 10 children, Gabriel had to pass through numerous hardships before achieving his dream of becoming a musical superstar.
