Mexico advances after controversial call

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – A poor decision by the referee in the 120th minute ended Costa Rica’s run at the Gold Cup. Wanchope’s side had held on for two hours and looked to shock Mexico in the penalty shootout, but they were never awarded that opportunity.
“It will be a match even”, said Costa Rica coach Paulo Wanchope.
“We have not been as true as we should have been (with our aim), we’re well aware we must have better finishing to be calmer and be able to enjoy the match”, Herrera said.
