MI left out of playoff, will face Florida State

Ohio State had been considered a lock for the College Football Playoff ever since it beat MI – then ranked No. 3 – in double overtime on November 26. Unfortunately for them, they blew a three-score lead to Penn State, continuing a season-long trend of coming up short against marquee opponents. Chryst never could have expected this from a defense that hadn’t allowed more than 30 points all season and had only allowed No. 2 Ohio State to gain more than 400 yards in a game this year.

For the first time in 25 years, the Huskies are a bona fide national-championship contender.

In the aftermath, Ohio State was given the nod into the third CFP leaving many fans and journalists wondering what the committee was thinking when it selected the four teams.

The problem I have with those four selections is the process itself.

There are five power conferences.

The Trojans opened the season with losses in three of their first four games, including a 52-6 setback to Alabama in the opener.

Then, on Saturday, No. 1 Alabama crushed No. 15 Florida, 54-16, to win the Southeastern Conference championship.

All three MI teams in the Mid-American Conference will be bowling. In the Big Ten, we played nine conference games, we don’t play any FCS schools.

“I’d much rather play in that championship game and win it because your team gets another chance to prepare and get better at their skill sets”, Meyer said.

The biggest knock on the Huskies was their “weak” out-of-conference schedule which was ranked 127th in the nation, but ultimately wasn’t enough for them to be leap-frogged by Penn State or MI. MI was No. 6, likely now bound for the Orange Bowl.

During the bye week, Ohio State landed its highest-rated recruit. Wisconsin is punished for not being a premier program and for being in a lesser division. Bama has to done these 2 things and they have the game won. Wisconsin’s Corey Clement was stopped short of the sticks by Grant Haley and Marcus Allen, the two defensive backs who came up with the season’s signature play – the blocked punt that led to the October 22 upset of Ohio State.

Penn State student-athletes have an 89 percent NCAA Graduation Success Rate.

Wisconsin (10-3) was No. 8 in the CFP and in the AP poll, where they were behind three other Big Ten teams.

At the end of the day, the one stat that mattered more than any other was the most basic stat of them all: losses. I don’t consider that a good loss. Both Penn State losses came on the road.

But let’s not forget that Pittsburgh also beat Clemson, at Clemson. Washington sophomore Jake Browning, who ranks fifth nationally in quarterback rating, will be the best passer the Crimson Tide has faced. Penn State may also be looking to prove a point after being left out of the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State is the Big Ten’s best team. First of all, if Ohio State lost to MI 49-10, that’s an absurd concept and the Buckeyes would surely never get in based on that result alone. C’mon Huskies, you can schedule better.
