MI quarterback has broken collarbone
MI (9-1, 6-1) remains alive in the College Football Playoff hunt.
No one seems to know exactly what is going on with the health of Wilton Speight, thanks to conflicting reports.
MI quarterback Wilton Speight has a broken collarbone and will miss at least Saturday’s home finale against IN, a person with knowledge of the injury said.
The team has confidence in John and John has confidence in himself and it’s still a team game. Since it’s very unlikely MI could not win the conference title and still go to the playoff, the question is begging to be asked: Is this a team that can finish in the top four without its starting quarterback? Ohio State will be facing hard odds at filling one of the final three spots. “He’s played well for us at times even with the injury, and obviously he’s gotten dinged up at times in games, too”.
Speight has passed for 2,156 yards and 15 touchdowns this year but took a number of hard hits in Michigan’s 14-13 loss.
MI will be looking to bounce back from the Iowa loss, but the Hoosiers feel they are in a similar predicament after missing out on the upset against Penn State.
Making matters worse: The Hoosiers have lost 20 straight games against the Wolverines.
The Hoosiers are trying to become bowl-eligible for the second straight season and can do so by beating either MI on Saturday or Purdue in the regular-season finale. Lunt returned from injury in last weeks loss to Wisconsin.
Michigan also could tweak its defense against the run after allowing Iowas one-dimensional offense to gain 164 yards on the ground and letting Michigan States struggling team have some success with 217 yards rushing. He’s the Star that led MI to their best record in years.
Special Teams: Michigan – Peppers is a threat every time he touches the ball.
“It’s going to depend on how he feels”, Harbaugh said of a Speight’s possible return.
MI has taken care of the smaller opponents on their schedule but when it comes to the tough opponents, the Wolverines offense has struggled.
O’Korn likely will have to shake off some nerves, but that might be hard. That’s his 2nd lowest passing game for the season. Morris has completed 4 of 5 passes for 45 yards this season.
