Miami Dolphins: Free Agency and 2016 NFL Mock Draft
Dan Campbell won’t be back with the Miami Dolphins next season, according to a report by NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
The signs are growing that Dan Campbell’s days in Miami are over. Initially, Campbell had some success and it was speculated that he may be given the head coaching title permanently, but the Dolphins faded down the stretch and the job was given to newcomer Adam Gase.
The Miami Dolphins made headlines in 2014 when they signed prized free agent Ndamukong Suh to a 6-year, $114 million contract.
He played his college ball at the University of Miami and he was an assistant coach for the Hurricanes on a couple of occasions.
“I’ve been here six years, and nothing has gone the way that we wanted it to be”, Campbell said December 15, according to Abramson. He needed the franchise to grant his release because he was under contract. Other teams have been inquiring about Campbell, so he likely won’t have trouble finding a job with a new club; his only coaching experience to this point has been in Miami. At the time of Philbin’s dismissal, the Dolphins were 1-3 with three consecutive losses to their name.
Campbell was one of seven candidates formally interviewed to become the organization’s ninth head coach, but the selection committee picked Gase, the Chicago Bears former offensive coordinator, instead.
Campbell joined the Dolphins as a coaching intern in 2010 and was promoted to tight ends coach in 2011.
