Miami Dolphins hire Nick Saban protégé as head coach
Adam Gase became the third recent Broncos assistant coach to join the current National Football League head-coaching ranks when he agreed Saturday to take the reins of the Miami Dolphins.
Instead of continuing the team’s search, possibly waiting on Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and New England Patriots coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, the selection committee felt they needed to move on to Gase, who sources say was also expecting an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles.
A team source told the Miami Herald that while a deal was not yet finalized, the two sides are making progress. The interview is scheduled for Saturday. They eventually hired Mike Pettine, who Haslam fired along with General Manager Ray Farmer this past Sunday.
The Miami Dolphins have scheduled a second interview with Adam Gase for the team’s head coaching vacancy, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Tight End coach Dan Campbell was promoted to interim HC, and led the Dolphins to a 6-10 record to finish the year. Tannehill was given a $96 million extension previous year, but he has a 29-35 record as a starter.
A 1996 graduate of Marshall High School, Gase has been groomed to be a head coach in the NFL.
Offensive coordinator Adam Gase has left the Bears after one season to become head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
“If Gase leaves or not, we can do a lot of things similar offensively too”, Pace said this week. “I feel like I’ve been doing it for the last three years, I really enjoy it, I enjoy that aspect of putting the gameplan together with the offensive staff”.
Gase also helped quarterback Peyton Manning have the best season of his career as Manning passed for 5,477 passing yards and 55 passing touchdowns. Having both Tannehill and Suh on the same page with their next head coach certainly helps the Dolphins reel in an offensive coach of Gase’s caliber.
In December 2013, Gase turned down interviews with Cleveland and Minnesota….
Will the Chicago Bears’ offense regress in 2016 without Adam Gase as the offensive coordinator?
“I wish he could stay with us in Chicago, but everyone has a journey and this is the next part of his”, Cutler said, according to a statement released by the Dolphins. He called Gase’s system the best he has been in. “He’s is ready for this for sure”.
