Miami Heat G Gerald Green ‘deeply saddened’ by punching incident
Yesterday, Heat guard Gerald Green’s suspension was officially over and he was able to workout with the team.
“I’m just trying to just get over this situation”, Green said after rejoining his teammates for practice at AmericanAirlines Arena. “I appreciate everybody’s support and prayers….”
“I just believe that we can (count on Green moving forward)”. I’m ready to continue with the team’s goals. “Ready to go. I’m excited to be back and happy to be back”.
According to a police report, Green then punched the man in the eye. Green began the year very well off the bench for Miami, before a personal issue derailed that momentum. That day, Green showed up at his Miami apartment building with bloody hands and asked a clerk to call paramedics.
Green had been suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team” after reports that he caused a disturbance in his condominium building and hit another person.
Almost every National Basketball Association team will be in the pursuit of Kevin Durant next summer, the Miami Heat among them. And most important, I want to apologize to my fans for not being available for the games that I missed. He added, “I’m deeply saddened by what happened (and) ready to move on”. “Fire rescue requested that the Sgt. handcuff the patient”.
No charges have been filed regarding the incident.
“This whole situation is one I’m ashamed of”, Green said after the practice. “I feel like I let them down by not being there”.
Green has not played in any of Miami’s last six games.
A party familiar with the incident told the Sun Sentinel that Green’s case already has been vetted through the NBA’s protocols.
With plenty of salary space, the Heat are in position to land any of the top-tier free agents, but the addition might come with a cost as it would likely mean the departure of Hassan Whiteside, with Dwyane Wade needing to take a pay cut.
Added Green: “From Day 1, [the Heat] have had my back”. He has been out of the lineup since.
