Miami Heat Guarantee Hassan Whiteside’s Contract
As a part of their effort to get Durant, the Heat are pushing for deals for Mario Chalmers and/or Chris Anderson, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote.
Hassan Whiteside burst onto the scene previous year with the Miami Heat, taking the league by storm over the final few months. Whiteside was a second round pick in 2010 and hadn’t gotten a real shot in the National Basketball Association until last season with the Heat, and he took full advantage.
Since everyone knows Hassan Whiteside is making the team, the Miami Heat decided to keep things simple and outright guarantee the center’s contract this season, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He was guaranteed 25 percent of his salary on August. 1.
However with Whiteside not only a roster lock but also the Heat’s anticipated starting center, the terms of his contract were modified to eliminate the additional waiting periods, as reported Thursday by BasketballInsiders.com.
From finally getting his National Basketball Association 2K rating up, to engaging in Twitter beef with Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Whiteside has had quite the offseason this summer. The Heat do not have Whiteside’s bird rights as he will only have a two-year tenure with the Heat when he becomes a free agent, so they will not be able to go over the cap to sign him. Over the 48 games he played in, he put up averages of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks a night. It is, however, a sign of good will from the organization to Whiteside.
