Michael Jordan announces Michigan football will join Jordan Brand
One thing is for sure, Nike and Jordan Brand would not partner with the Wolverines unless they saw big things in the future. They Wolverines will be the first college football team to wear the signature Jordan “Jumpman” logo on the field.
How did Michigan get hooked up with the Jordan Brand?
The brand has opened Flight 23 stores in New York and Las Vegas, both of which were launched via a partnership with Footaction, but the upcoming store in downtown Chicago will not be co-branded, reports ESPN. It will be all Jordan.
The idea behind the store is not only to offer a wider selection of Jordan-branded product but also to tell the Jordan story and become part of the community. A space above the store can be used for Jordan-sponsored athletes or as a promotional space.
But now that the team has announced it’s intention to move to the über popular Jordan brand? “Red, white and black”.
“We think it will resonate with the city of Chicago”, Miller said. Since then, the brand has become a global icon and an incredibly successful brand developed by Michael Jordan and Nike. Charles Barkley famously said that he had “two million reasons not to wear Reebok”, alluding to the fact that Nike generously paid him $2 million (whether it was per year or in total is unclear, although that amount in ’92 was huge). He sold $70 million in shoes the first three months of the first Air Jordan’s being out. “We haven’t been able to re-create it. It’s just virtually impossible”.
The latest name might ring a bell too: Michael Jordan. “If I could, I’d sell it to you”.
