Michael Sam announces plans for 2016 National Football League return
Michael Sam is back in Missouri, working on a master’s degree and still hopeful for a career in the NFL.
Michael Sam, who became known as the first openly gay football player in the NFL, says he’s hoping to be back on the roster for the 2016 season!
Michael Sam is now out of football following a unusual stint in the Canadian Football League where he left the Montreal Alouettes twice before leaving for good.
(KTRS) – A St. Louis area businessman says he is prepared to move ahead with a campaign for Governor. I feel it was one of many smartest things I have done in a very long time. I came out because I didn’t want to hide anything in my life.
“I let go of my agent recently and I also let go of my publicist”, Sam said. Despite 11 tackles and three sacks in the preseason, Sam did not make the final 53-man roster and was later added to the Cowboys’ practice squad where he remained until he was waived in mid-October.
Sam intimated that the media was going to divulge the info anyway, and that the original idea was to tell his team privately after he was drafted (much in the same way he told his college teammates.) He also stated, earlier in the interview, that he has “no regrets whatsoever” despite the potential harm he believes coming out may’ve done to his career. “I’ve just come to a conclusion, as I take this break from football, I want to focus on my media training, just trying to get into broadcast and commentating”.
Well, this will definitely be an uphill battle for Sam, but we wish him the best as he tries to return to the NFL.
“It was a combination of a lot of stuff”, Sam said when asked about the specific personal issues that troubled him. I wanted to be the one to tell my own story. However, he has also not yet given up on his dream of fighting in the National Football League trenches (which should be obvious given his participation in this year’s all-around disastrous Veteran Combine).
