Michelle Obama releases ‘girl-anthem’ music playlist for global Day of
R-E-S-P-E-C-T is definitely something to give First Lady Michelle Obama and her awesome Spotify playlist in celebration of the United Nation’s global Day of the Girl on October 11.
Mrs. Obama definitely knows how to celebrate girls as her playlist contained not only empowered female singers, but songs that would help build up a girl’s confidence. 11 to promote awareness for gender inequality around the world.
Included in the 20-track playlist are songs from three Broadway musicals: “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, “My Shot” from Hamilton and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, as performed by Jennifer Hudson on the original film soundtrack for Dreamgirls. The first lady notes sisterhood with songs by girl groups including TLC’s “No Scrubs” and “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child.
There were also a handful of older, more soulful musical gems from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Billie Holiday.
Obama’s playlist release is part of her “Let Girls Learn” project. She ams to influence American girls to grab opportunities and work it for their advantage, according to Yahoo News.
Earlier this year the White House launched it’s own channel on Spotify that was used to share Michelle Obama’s playlist and was used at release for two playlist’s “hand-created” by US President Barack Obama. His daytime and evening playlists included tracks by Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Mary J. Blige, Frank Sinatra and Lauryn Hill.
