Michelle Obama’s State of the Union Dress Sold Out Mid-Speech
By 9:41 p.m. Washington journo Kate Bennett, former fashion editor at Washingtonian magazine and current White House correspondent for the Independent Journal, found it on sale at Neiman Marcus.
For her husband’s final State of the Union address, the First Lady went out on top. News, the dress sold out online while President Obama was still giving the address. Check out some photos of the First Lady from the SOTU.
The dress, created by American designer Narciso Rodriguez, had been available on theNeiman Marcus website for about $2,000, according to the Associated Press. Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy is at left, Army veteran Naveed Shah is at right.
At last year’s State of the Union, the First Lady memorably channeled Julianna Margulies’ The Good Wife character Alicia Florrick in a Michael Kors suit.
Perhaps as a nod to the breakthrough in U.S.- Cuba relations made under President Obama’s leadership, the First Lady relied on Rodriguez, the son of Cuban immigrants, for her State of the Union ensemble.
In addition to being appropriate for the occasion, Michelle Obama’s gorgeous look was just a reminder of what a champion she’s been for fashion since she’s been in office.
