Michelle Obama Shares Spotify Playlist For worldwide Day Of The Girl
First lady Michelle Obama smiles while speaking during a christening event for the USS Illinois at Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics, shipyard, Saturday, October 10, 2015, in Groton, Conn. The $2.7 billion vessel is the 13th in the Virginia class of submarines, which can carry out a range of missions including anti-submarine warfare, delivery of special forces, and surveillance.
The First Lady’s playlist, promoted with the hashtag #64MillionGirls, is compilation of empowering songs all performed by female artists.
Michelle Obama, who has pushed for women’s rights and education during her years as First Lady, is now turning the volume up in the form of her first ever Spotify playlist.
And she reached back to classics including Holiday’s 1944 version of On the Sunny Side of the Street, Diana Ross’s hit 1970 take on Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and, closing the playlist, Aretha Franklin’s signature song Respect. According to the #62MillionGirls campaign, that is how many girls worldwide lack access to schooling. United States President Barack Obama initially released Spotify playlists during a vacation in Martha’s Vineyard this summer.
